WEEK 10 PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Dalton Brindo

Wirt County’s Dalton Brindo earned Metronews Player of the Week honors for the second time this season after he totaled 373 offensive yards and four touchdowns in a 28-26 win over Class AA No. 5 Roane County.  Overall, Brindo rushed for 271 yards on 30 carries, completed three of three passes for 60 yards and caught another two passes for 42 more yards.  One of those touchdowns included a 94-yard run.

WEEK NINE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Dylan Cottrell

 

No. 4 Roane County (7-1) pounded Herbert Hoover (2-6) 48-10.  Raiders quarterback Dylan Cottrell continued to put up crazy numbers statistically.  The senior totaled six touchdowns in the game.  Overall, he totaled 506 yards – 320 of those came rushing the football.  He also had an 85-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and two interceptions defensively.  It’s the second time this season Cottrell has been named the MetroNews Player of the Week – he also did so in week number five of the year.

 

WEEK EIGHT PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jesse Howdershelt

 

Summers County running back Jesse Howdershelt led his team to a 26-6 win over Meadow Bridge on senior night, keeping the Bobcats’ playoff hopes alive.  The senior scored on long second half touchdown runs of 64 yards and 77 yards – he finished the game with 240 yards on 25 carries.  With those 240 yards, Howdershelt eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark on the season.

 

WEEK SEVEN PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Dalton Brindo

 

Wirt County running back Dalton Brindo combined for over 230 offensive yards in week number seven as his Tigers remained undefeated on the year with a win over 33-29 win over Buffalo.  Brindo scored the game-winning touchdown with just 40 seconds left on a fourth-and-goal from the one-yard line. 

 

WEEK SIX PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Alex Ash

 

In week number six of the season, sixth ranked Parkersburg knocked off Riverside 37-24 behind quarterback Alex Ash.  Overall, Ash finished the game with five total touchdowns – four through the air and another on the ground.  He completed 16 of 23 passes for 209 yards.

 

WEEK FIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Dylan Cottrell

 

Roane County quarterback Dylan Cottrell led the Raiders to a solid 41-21 win over Braxton County in week number five.  The senior finished the contest with huge numbers overall – he totaled 396 yards and five touchdowns.  Two of those touchdowns came on the ground as he ran for 143 yards – he also had a touchdown pass, touchdown catch and punt return for a score.

 

WEEK FOUR PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Andrew Johnson

 

Beckley quarterback Andrew Johnson anchored a come from behind, 29-28 win over No. 1 Spring Valley in week four.  The junior did most of his damage on the ground, finishing the game with four touchdowns overall while rushing for 136 yards on 11 carries in the pivotal win.  One of those touchdowns included a 51-yard scamper.

 

WEEK THREE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Tim Faulkner

 

Brooke picked up a much needed win in week three after starting of the year 0-2. The Bruins handled University 27-14 behind senior running back Tim Faulkner.  He rushed for 241 yards and three touchdowns in the game – two of those touchdowns came on runs of 65 yards and 33 yards.  Overall, Brooke finished the game with 365 yards rushing.

 

WEEK TWO PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Adam Weeks

 

Shady Spring junior quarterback Adam Weeks had a huge game in week number two of the season as his team handled Westside 41-20.  Overall, Weeks threw for 320 yards and four touchdowns after completing 19 of 23 passes.  He connected with receiver Chase Conner for three of those passing touchdowns.

 

WEEK ONE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Ryan Switzer

 

A lot of preseason hype surrounded George Washington running back Ryan Switzer heading into the 2011 season — and in week one the junior proved why.  In the Patriots’ 61-0 domination of South Charleston, Switzer led the way with 277 rushing yards on 16 carries.  He also had a 79-yard touchdown reception as well, overall totaling 356 offensive yards and five touchdowns.
