WV State 84, Seton Hill 77 (OT)

GREENSBURG, Pa. – In an overtime contest, WV State posted an 84-77 road win at Seton Hill.

Five scored in double figures in the win for the Yellow Jackets. David Ford led the way with a team-high 18 points while Robbie Lewis had 16 points and 15 rebounds. Corey Bethea amassed 14 points. Dustin Jones came off the bench to net 11 while Delrico Lane totaled 11 points, seven assists and six boards.

The Griffins were guided by Chris Giles’ game-high 22 points. Matt Miller narrowly missed a triple-double with 18 points, nine rebounds and eight assists. Andrew Cressler tallied 13 points while Oliver Lewinson corralled 10 boards.

Ohio Valley 82, Pitt-Johnstown 79

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – Ohio Valley had a huge second half to overcome a halftime deficit en route to an 82-79 road win at Pitt-Johnstown.

Five Fighting Scots scored in double figures in the win. Kendall Allison guided the winners with 19 points. Austin Cunningham had 16 points and 10 assists while Rodney Everage hit for 15. Jordan Brooks (14) and Trey Vaughn (11) also reached double digits. In the second half, OVU hit 20-of-35 (57.1) in the comeback win.

In the loss, Patrick Grubbs garnered a game-high 22 points to go along with eight rebounds. Nick Novak accounted for 16 points while Jordan Miller amassed 13. UPJ hit 54 percent of its attempts in the game, hitting 34-of-63 shots.

Wheeling Jesuit 92, Concord 80

WHEELING, W. Va. – Wheeling Jesuit’s strong first half propelled the Cardinals to a 92-80 win over Concord.

Steve Catich had a team-high 22 points in the victory. Recardo Gaddy added 18 while Josh Valentic posted 11. The squad combined to hit 31-of-61 from the floor for 50.8 percent. WJU canned 12 three-point shots and was nearly perfect from the foul line (18-of-21).

Javaughn Acree-Manuel poured in a game-high 35 points in the loss on 12-of-24 shooting. Mike Boyd was the only other Mountain Lion to hit for double figures, posting 10 points to go along with five assists. CU made 43.8 percent of its attempts from the floor.

Charleston 75, Shepherd 47

CHARLESTON, W. Va. – Charleston held the visitors to 20 percent shooting in the first half and never looked back in the 75-47 win over Shepherd.

PJ Reyes poured in 24 points and totaled 10 rebounds for the victors. Evan Faulkner added 15 points while Xavier Humphrey chipped in 10 off the bench. Marcus Knott dished out five assists while Philip Outley stole four passes.

The Rams were paced by Brantley Osborne’s 14 points while Aeron Spencer totaled 11. Chad Moore posted 10 points while Chauncey Burgazli pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds. SU shot 50 percent in the second half but could not overcome the halftime deficit.

#4 West Liberty 139, Bluefield State 74

WEST LIBERTY, W. Va. – Fourth-ranked West Liberty dropped in a season-high 139 points in the 139-74 win over visiting Bluefield State.

The Hilltoppers placed eight in double figures and shot 56.6 percent as a team. WLU raced out to a 71-43 halftime advantage and never looked back. CJ Hester accounted for 25 points and 11 rebounds in the win while Alex Falk connected for 23 points. Cedric Brown had 15 points, nine assists and seven boards while Chris Morrow (14) and Shawn Dyer (10) also reached double figures. Nick Brown (17), Keene Cockburn (13) and Michael Lopez (12) all notched double figures off the bench. The Hilltoppers nailed 12 three-point shots in the win.

The Big Blues were paced by Johnny Uhegwu’s 22 points. Roy Cooper amassed 16 points and 10 rebounds while Alex Webb hit for 14. Devontae Royal totaled eight points. Nineteen of BSC’s 40 rebounds were on the offensive glass.

Glenville State 75, Fairmont State 59

FAIRMONT, W. Va. – Glenville State broke open a one-point halftime contest in the final stanza for a 75-59 win at Fairmont State.

Marcus Ashton came off the bench to score a game-high 25 points for the Pioneers in the win. Andy Dollman and Jamel Morris each notched 10 points for GSC. Kevin Gray added nine while Nate Cash totaled 10 rebounds. The Pioneers connected on 22 charity tosses.

In the loss, Steve Custis dropped in 18 points, grabbed eight rebounds and registered four steals in 38 minutes of action. Isaac Thornton amassed 11 points and seven rebounds. The Falcons pulled down 15 offensive boards for the game.

Alderson-Broaddus 90, Salem International 71

PHILIPPI, W. Va. – Alderson-Broaddus notched a 90-71 non-conference victory over Salem International Saturday.

Kurklin Bohanan poured in 25 points to go along with nine rebounds and two steals in the victory. Casey Ainslie totaled 21 points and grabbed seven boards. Nate Barnes and O’Dell Eargle each accounted for 12 points. Barnes had six assists while Eargle pulled down six rebounds.

A-B sank 49.2 percent of its shots in the game and pulled down 45 rebounds, 15 of which came on the offensive glass.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

On Saturday, Concord, Glenville State, Ohio Valley, Seton Hill, Shepherd and West Liberty  all registered WVIAC wins.

Seton Hill 73, WV State 50

GREENSBURG, Pa. – Seton Hill posted a 73-50 victory over visiting WV State Saturday in WVIAC action.

Paige Alviani poured in a game-high 18 points while Jaleesa Beverly had 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Griffins. Katie Gattuso had 14 points and seven boards while Anne Marie Olesky garnered seven points and nine rebounds. Tiara Stossel dished out eight assists.

Jasmine Blanton paced the Yellow Jackets with 15 points and five of the team’s 10 assists. Asia Greenleaf accounted for 13 points and 11 rebounds. WVSU canned 80 percent of its charity tosses in the game.

Concord 75, Wheeling Jesuit 57

WHEELING, W. Va. – Concord hit 51.7 percent of its attempts in the first half en route to a 75-57 road win at Wheeling Jesuit.

Jolysa Brown had a solid game with 19 points and 17 rebounds for the Mountain Lions. Camisha Alexander totaled 16 points while Andrea Bertrand and Amanda Smith each hit for 12 points. Anna Truckley dished out six assists. As a team, CU amassed 19 assists on 29 buckets.

In the loss, Cassy Sanderson guided the Cardinals with 18 points while Taneka Lewis added 11. Alex Anderson came off the bench to net seven. WJU hit seven three-point shots in the game and dished out 16 assists, seven of which came from Lewis.

West Liberty 65, Bluefield State 54

WEST LIBRTY, W. Va. – West Liberty overcame a four-point deficit at the break by shooting 52 percent in the second half to down Bluefield State 65-54.

Hillary Southworth poured in a game-high 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Erica Hershberger added 12 points and six assists while Emily Blevins hit for 10. WLU drained 21 free throws in the game and dished out 14 assists on 20 baskets.

Charlene Diggs totaled 18 points in the loss for the Lady Blues. Tiffany Moorer added 10 points and six rebounds. Tasia Nolan had eight points and nine rebounds. BSC drained 40.7 percent of its attempts in the opening half for the advantage at intermission.

Glenville State 88, Fairmont State 80

FAIRMONT, W. Va. – Glenville State posted an 88-80 road win at Fairmont State in WVIAC action Saturday.

Beth Deren led the victors with a team-best 18 points. Tenisha Wilson added 16 points and seven rebounds. Mishae Miles had 13 points and seven boards while Kenyell Goodson notched 12 points. Ginny Petties almost had a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds. Danielle Woodmore dished out five assists.

In the loss, Hailey Garrett totaled 21 points and seven rebounds. Briana Welch accounted for 13 points while Kaitlin Snyder had 12 points and seven assists. Kelsi Wright came off the bench for 10 points. FSU drained 50.8 percent of its shots, including 18-of-30 (60 percent) in the final 20 minutes.

Shepherd 67, Charleston 59

CHARLESTON, W. Va. – Shepherd held a 13-point halftime advantage and held off Charleston in a 67-59 contest.

Gabby Flinchum had a solid game with 20 points and 14 rebounds for the Rams in the win. Rachel Johnson connected on 12 points off the bench while Shelby Fayak and Emily Daniel each accounted for 11 markers. Alex Tamez had eight points and six assists.

In the loss, Lauren Davis poured in a team-high 19 points for the Golden Eagles. Nichole Perry added 11 while Erika Rousculp scored just seven but pulled down a game-high 17 rebounds. UC hit 35.3 percent of its shots in the game.

Ohio Valley 62, Pitt-Johnstown 56

JOHNSTOWN, W. Va. – Ohio Valley rallied from an eight-point halftime deficit en route to a 62-56 road win at Pitt-Johnstown.

Dakeisha Mann led the Fighting Scots with a game-high 22 points to go along with seven rebounds. Amber Avery narrowly missed a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds. Shelby Way grabbed a game-high 12 boards. OVU hit 22-of-26 free throws.

In the defeat, Kaitlynn Fratz guided the Lady Cats with 13 points. Nicole Carman and Sara Trimarco each netted 10 points while Inaya Stephenson corralled 10 rebounds. UPJ sank seven three-point shots in the contest.

Salem International 65, Alderson-Broaddus 61

PHILIPPI, W. Va. – Alderson-Broaddus dropped a 65-61 non-conference game to Salem International Saturday.

Zipporah Tidwell scored a team-high 13 in the loss for the Battlers. Cayla Rhodes chipped in 12 while Amanda Peoples contributed eight points and 10 rebounds. Nautica Davis dishes out seven of the team’s 13 assists.
