WVIAC Wednesday Men’s Soccer Recap

On Wednesday, Wheeling Jesuit picked up a WVIAC victory in men’s soccer action while Davis & Elkins earned a non-conference victory over Millersville.

Wheeling Jesuit 4, Ohio Valley 0

VIENNA, W. Va. – Wheeling Jesuit recorded a 4-0 victory at Ohio Valley Wednesday afternoon in men’s soccer action.

Luke Roan registered what turned out to be the game-winning goal in the 17th minute of action off a pass from Carlos Avila. In the 26th minute, Ignacio Fernandez made the score 2-0 when he converted a penalty kick.

In the second half, Fernandez found Philip Mshelbwala for a goal in the 73rd minute. Cody Coven tallied the Cardinals’ final goal in the 84th minute of action.

For the match, Cody Thompson played 81:01 to earn the shutout. Darcy Turner played all 90 minutes in goal for the Fighting Scots, stopping 10 shots.

Davis & Elkins 3, Millersville 1

PHILIPPI, W. Va. – Davis & Elkins posted a key regional victory with a 3-1 defeat of Millersville Wednesday in men’s soccer action.

The Senators took an early 1-0 lead when Darragh Vieyra took a pass from James Pucci in the 37th minute. The visitors tied the contest late in the first half of play.

D&E jumped back in front and solidified the victory with two goals in a span of 2:31. At the 81:05 mark, Pucci found the back of the net. Oliver Bienias and Wyatt Hill were each credited with an assist. At the 83:36 mark, Bienias scored unassisted for a 3-1 advantage.

Moises Oseguera had a huge day in goal, stopping six shots while playing all 90 minutes.
