Frankfort band director says it was an honor

The Director of the Frankfort High School Falcon Marching Band calls it a “performance of a lifetime.”

“It was an incredible experience,” Roger Walker said on Wednesday’s MetroNews Talkline, two days after the 70 members of his Frankfort band marched in the Presidential Inaugural Parade in Washington, D.C.

The Frankfort High Band was one of the last units in Monday’s parade and did not make it to the viewing platform, near the White House on Pennsylvania Avenue, until after dark.

The band played “God Bless America.”

“The President, he stayed for the entire parade.  The Vice President was in the reviewing stand,” Walker said.  “They applauded.  I was able to make eye contact with the President and we were close enough to where we could do that.”

He says the students and everyone involved considered it an honor to be there.  “This is the one they’ll never forget.”

Monday’s parade was the 57th Presidential Inaugural Parade.  In all, 59 groups and 8,800 people were part of the procession from Capitol Hill to the White House.
