Charges have been filed against the owner of the horses found either dead or severely malnourished last week in Roane County.
On Thursday, Tory Morgan, no age available, was charged with 36 misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty.
Roane County officials say those charges are for the 20 horses seized from her Reedy farm along with 16 other horses found dead on the property.
Investigators say they were told, at one time, more than 40 horses had been in her care. Those additional horses have not been located at this time.
The surviving horses are in the care of the state veterinarian.
Deputies with the Roane County Sheriff’s Department say they found a little bit of grain and hay at the farm, but not nearly enough to feed the number of horses there.
The discovery was made after a report of a dead horse seen near the property.
