CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Lincoln County delegate is resigning from the Legislature.
Delegate Josh Stowers, a Democrat, said he will step down to become Deputy State Treasurer.
“I feel that it’s just a good opportunity for me to serve the people of West Virginia in an expanded capacity,” Stowers said of his new job on Monday’s MetroNews “Talkline.”
He’ll begin his work in Treasurer John Perdue’s office next Monday and will eventually take over for current Assistant Treasurer Danny Ellis who is scheduled to retire on December 31.
“You can look at the assistant treasurer as, almost, the chief of staff for the treasurer,” said Stowers.
“(I’ll be) Running the day to day operations of the office, representing the treasurer on a number of boards and commissions.” He said he will also have a hand in legislative matters dealing with the state Treasurer’s Office.
Stowers was first elected to the House in 2008.
He served as vice chairman of the House Education Committee and is a member of the House Pensions and Retirement Committee and House Roads and Transportation Committee.
Stowers had worked as an assistant principal at Horace Mann Middle School in Kanawha County.
