Kidnapping trial ends in guilty plea

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Kanawha County man pleaded guilty Tuesday to kidnapping his pregnant ex-girlfriend.

Kanawha County Circuit Judge Charles King accepted the plea from Tyler Roy and immediately sentenced him to 10 years in prison.

Various witnesses testified Monday, the first day of the trial, that they saw Megan Jean tried to get out of Roy’s car but he grabbed her and pulled her back into the vehicle. Testimony also indicated he had threatened to kill Jean and the unborn child.

The incident, which happened last December, ended when Roy stopped at a gas station and Jean was able to get away from him and report what happened to the station attendant.

Roy’s original defense is what happened wasn’t kidnapping.
