Clay County residential shooting being treated as self-defense

ELKHURST, W.Va. — Clay County Sheriff’s Department investigators said a Thursday morning shooting death at a residence appeared to be self-defense.

The 64-year-old homeowner told police he heard someone enter his Beech Road residence about 8:30 a.m.. He shot the man, who was also armed.

An investigation into the shooting continued Thursday.
