Harrison County man receives additional prison time for second robbery

FAIRMONT, W. Va. — After being arrested for his involvement in two bank robberies last July, a Harrison County man has received sentences for both crimes.

William Arney Amos

William Arney Amos, 35, of Shinnston, was order to serve no less than 10 and no more than 25 years in prison Tuesday by Marion Circuit Court Judge David R. Janes for robbing the Marion Square branch of WesBanco back on July 31.

West Virginia State Police arrested Amos after he came into the bank with a knife, received money, lied to the tellers saying there was a bomb outside and threatened to blow it up if any called the authorities before he left.

Seven minutes after the call came in, Amos’ vehicle was spotted traveling on Route 19 through Monongah and he was pulled over with the mask and knife used in the crime.

Investigators were able to connect Amos to an earlier robbery at the White Oaks branch of Huntington Bank on July 7 because the same vehicle was used.

He pleaded guilty to both crimes as part of a deal.

Amos received the same punishment in Harrison County back in March and it was ruled he will serve the sentences consecutively.
