One dead in early morning Harrison County fire

SHINNSTON, W.Va. — The Deputy Chief of the Shinnston Fire Department has confirmed an elderly man died in a house fire early Monday morning.

Crews responded to a house fire on Washington Avenue before 3 am.

No injuries were initially reported, but crews remained on scene into the mid-morning hours.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office has been called in to investigate in conjunction with the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department.

The name of the victim has not yet been released.

Fire departments from Shinnston, Lumberport, Worthington, and Spelter resonded to the scene.

The State Medical Examiner’s Office has also been contacted.
