National Guard members evacuated from buildings after gas leak

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Staff members of the West Virginia National Guard were evacuated out of several buildings at the Charleston base Monday afternoon after a contractor working on the property struck a natural gas line causing a leak, a Guard spokesperson said.

Mountaineer Gas was called to the scene to repair the line. The contractor was working on a new security gate at the Coonskin Drive entrance to the base.

No injuries were reported.
