MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Undefeated University moved from No. 3 to No. 1 in this week’s edition of the MetroNews boys basketball Power Index computer rankings, presented by AARP.
The Hawks (11-0) picked up three wins over the past week, including a 54-50 victory over rival and No. 5 Morgantown on the road.
Martinsburg, which held the top spot a week ago, fell to No. 2 after an upset loss to Sherando (Va.) in overtime on Tuesday night. The Bulldogs face No. 3 Musselman (8-1) on Friday and No. 5 Morgantown (8-2) on Saturday. Hedgesville (12-1) comes in at No. 4 overall.
Bluefield (9-1) is the highest rated Class AA team, coming in at No. 8 in the state. Poca (7-2) is No. 2 in AA after an impressive road win over defending champion Fairmont Senior (8-3) on Monday night. The Polar Bears come in just behind Poca as the third highest Class AA team.
Fayetteville (10-0) remains the highest rated Class A team, jumping up to No. 24 overall. Wheeling Central (11-2) is No. 2 in Class A (30 overall) and Ravenswood (10-1) No. 3 (31 overall).
