Three overdoses at Western Regional Jail

BARBOURSVILLE, W.Va. — Three inmates overdosed Wednesday night at the Western Regional Jail in Barboursville, authorities said.

All three had recovered and were back in the jail by Thursday afternoon, according to Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety Communications Director Larry Messina.

Narcan was used to revive the inmates. The three were in the same section of the jail. An investigation into how the drugs got into the facility is underway, Messina said.

The state’s regional jail and corrections systems has battled an increase in drug smuggling and resulting overdoses in recent months. A number of people have been charged and indicted in recent months.
