Gallery: Cabell Midland loses 49-41 shootout to Cincinnati Anderson

ONA, W.Va. — Despite a 230-yard rushing performance by sophomore Ivan Vaughn, Class AAA No. 5 Cabell Midland fell to Cincinnati Anderson 49-41 in Friday night’s season opener

Vaughn ran for two touchdowns and caught a third, quarterback Jovaun Light ran for 143 and fullback Isaiah Duncan added 130 yards for the Knights (0-1), who lost despite rushing for 538 yards total.

Vaughn’s 38-yard touchdown put Cabell Midland ahead 28-14 at the half.

Anderson quarterback Jay Volpenhein tossed five touchdowns while completing 19-of-32 passes for 355 yards. He also ran for 165 yards, including a 13-yard touchdown that put his team ahead for good 42-35 in the fourth quarter.
