No. 5 Capital wins thriller on final play over No. 7 Cabell Midland

ONA, W.Va. — Class AAA No. 5 Capital won a back-and-forth shootout on Friday night over No. 7 Cabell Midland, scoring on the game’s final play for a 55-49 win.

Cougars’ quarterback Kerry Martin connected with Anthony Pittman for the game-winning score on an untimed down from 65-yards out.

Martin completed 15 of 20 passes for 274 yards and four touchdowns overall, adding 88 yards and two more scores on the ground. Pittman finished with 98 receiving yards and two touchdowns, while Deshawn Harper added five catches for 111 yards and two more scores for the Cougars.

Isaiah Duncan rushed for 196 yards and two touchdowns in the loss for Cabell Midland, while Ivan Vaughn added 188 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.

Prior to Capital’s game-winning score, Cabell Midland had scored 21-unanswered points to tie the game at 49-49.
