Balanced attack leads Gilmer to IOGA Class A girls title

GLENVILLE, W.Va. — Gilmer County used a balanced offensive attack to defeat Van 56-32 in the championship game of the IOGA Class A tournament.

A pair of freshman guards led the way for the Titans. Trinity Bancroft paced Gilmer with 11 points and Taylor McHenry added 10. Hannah Grove and Carrah Ferguson each chipped in with eight points.

Van’s Kensley White led all scorers with a 12-point effort.

Gilmer broke open a close game late in the first half, closing the second quarter on a 7-0 run to build a 28-17 lead. After allowing twelve points in the opening quarter, the Bulldogs were held to 5, 9, and 6-point quarters the rest of the way.

The Titans won the tournament hosted by Glenville State College for the first time in three attempts.

Van (3-2) will visit Tolsia Thursday in their final contest prior to a holiday break. The Titans (4-1) will visit Braxton County Friday.
