Eastern Panhandle gets most snow from weekend storm

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — West Virginia’s Eastern Panhandle ended up getting the most snow from the weekend storm.

The National Weather Service reported 11.7 inches of snow in Martinsburg at 10:00 p.m. Sunday. Capon Bridge in Hampshire County had 10 inches, Shepherdstown in Jefferson County with 7, Smith Crossroads in Morgan County 4.7 inches and Keyser in Mineral County at 5.8 inches.

By late Sunday night, county school districts in the area had already cancelled classes  for Monday.

Parts of northern West Virginia including the Northern Panhandle had plowable snow, most it falling Saturday night. Some counties cancelled school for Monday while others were beginning the day on delay.

Counties in the Greenbrier Valley were concerned about possible icy conditions. Greenbrier, Summers, Monroe and Webster counties all announced schools would start on a delayed schedule.

The state’s western lowlands got little if any snow Saturday and Sunday.
