Winter storm brings more snow than most expected

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — Tiffany Thomas at the Maple Valley Meat Market was a little short handed on Friday as a winter storm moved through the region.

“The roads aren’t too great, it’s been pouring,” she told Metronews. “A couple of people who work here in the kitchen can’t get to work and they’ve called off.”

All along the U.S. Route 50 Corridor and to the north snowfall caught some off guard. More snow came out of the system than was first anticipated Friday morning.

“The road is nasty,” said Jack Calhoun at J-and-J Flower Shop in West Union. “I’d say we’ve got a good 4 to 5 (inches) and it’s still snowing.”

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning mid morning Friday for counties along the Route 50 Corridor. Counties included are Wood, Pleasants, Tyler, Ritchie, Doddridge, Lewis, Harrison, Taylor, Upshur, Barbour as well as parts of Pocahontas, Randolph, Mineral, Grant, Monongalia, Preston, and Tucker Counties.
