Berkeley County teen killed in New Years Eve crash

INWOOD, W.Va. — A New Years Eve crash killed a Musselman High School senior and has critically injured another teenager.

According to West Virginia State Police, Nicholas Shackleford, 18 of Inwood, lost control of his vehicle near the intersection of Sulphur Springs Road and Phoebe Way. At 9:31 pm, the vehicle left the road and flipped onto its roof.

Passenger Kristen Barron, 18 of Inwood, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

Shackleford was seriously injured after he was ejected from the vehicle. He was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital for treatment.

State Police confirm Shackleford and Barron were not wearing seat belts.

The crash is still under investigation.
