Fire consumes building in downtown Williamson

WILLIAMSON,W.Va. — Fire fighters from several departments in Mingo County and neighboring Kentucky are battling a blaze today in downtown Williamson.

Smoke billows from the blaze which started around 7:20 Monday morning.

The fire broke out in an abandoned building which was being remodeled. The facility was to have been converted into a wellness clinic in the coming weeks.

The fire seemed to have started in the second floor and broke through the roof. Crews attacked the flames much of Monday morning from aerial ladder trucks.

Dispatcher say the fire was first reported at 7:20 a.m. A cause is not known. There are no reports of anybody injured.  Power outages have closed most of downtown Williamson businesses including the Mingo County Courthouse.
