Students in Cabell, Marion counties to have lessons through blended model

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Students in Cabell and Marion counties will start the school year in a blended learning model because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Cabell County Board of Education on Tuesday updated the re-entry plan for the upcoming school year, which begins Sept. 8.

Students with last names beginning with letters “A” through “K” will be in school buildings on Tuesday and Wednesday during the first week of classes. Students with last names starting with letters “L” through “Z” will have face-to-face lessons on Thursday and Friday.

Beginning on Sept. 14, the first group of students will be in schools on Monday and Tuesday while the second group will be in buildings on Thursday and Friday. Wednesday will be designated cleaning days.

Staff will have to report to their worksites on all days.

The schedule will continue through at least the fall semester.

The Marion County Board of Education approved a similar plan, which will be in place for the entire school year. WBOY-TV reported the decision comes after a survey of parents.
