HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Huntington Mayor Steve Williams was elected to a third term Tuesday night.
Williams, a Democrat, finished with 8,093 votes (61%) while Republican challenger and former Huntington councilmember Scott Caserta had 5,173 votes (39%). Williams was first elected in 2012.
“While there’s much we’ve accomplished there is still much to be done,” Williams said in a news release.
“I’m profoundly grateful to the voters of Huntington for giving me the chance to finish what we started eight years ago.”

Williams said he looks forward to continue the city’s momentum in fighting the opioid epidemic, bringing down crime and opening up more businesses.
“Through hard work and creative thinking we’ve been able to put our financial house in order and put our city back on the right track. We’ve fully funded employee pension plans, given our dedicated first responders a 24% pay raise, balanced the budget and cut taxes to encourage new investment and Huntington is on the move again,” he said in the release.
“I’m proud of my team at city hall and of the residents of Huntington for working together to help make sure Huntington is always a place we’re proud to call home.”
Caserta tweeted out his thoughts on the race late Tuesday evening:
It was a long and difficult race but I truly don’t feel we lost, I feel we learned. I was so very blessed to have picked up so many wonderful friends along this journey. Congratulations Mayor Steve Williams. You and the City of Huntington will remain in our prayers.
