Active COVID cases drop toward late August levels

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Active COVID-19 cases dropped to 9,703 in numbers released Wednesday morning by the state Department of Health and Human Resources.

Active cases haven’t been that low since Aug. 20.

The DHHR added three deaths Wednesday including a 46-year old male from Preston County, an 84-year old female from Preston County, and a 90-year old female from Preston County.

Overall deaths are now at 3,998.

The state confirmed 1,130 new COVID cases in the past 24 hours.

Hospitalizations increased to 847 in Wednesday’s report, an increase of 18 patients from the prior day.
