WV sees slight increase in active COVID-19 cases Sunday

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Active COVID-19 cases in West Virginia slightly increased again Sunday, bringing the total number to 6,755.

The state Department of Health and Human Resources reported 1,038 new cases and no new deaths.

Total deaths are at 4,518.

There are 533 patients hospitalized with the virus including 197 in the ICU and 100 on ventilators.

Six counties are in the “green”category on the state’s COVID-19 County Alert Map. That includes Wirt, Pleasants, Doddridge, Lewis, Pocahontas and Tucker. Meanwhile, 12 counties remain in the “red.”

West Virginia has now surpassed 18,000 breakthrough cases, meaning those who have been fully vaccinated and tested positive for COVID.
