Legislators will hit the road for 2 interim meetings in the months to come

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Two of the legislature’s scheduled interim committee meetings later this year will be on the road.

The legislature’s Joint Committee on Government and Finance has approved interims at WVU in Morgantown and Cacapon Resort State Park in Morgan County. The remaining meetings will be held at the state capitol in Charleston.

Rob Alsop

The official schedule of interim meetings include April 24-26; May 22-24 (at Morgantown/WVU); June 12-14; July 24-26; Sept. 11-13; Nov. 13-15 (at Cacapon State Park/Berkeley Springs); Dec. 5-6; and, Jan. 8-10, 2023.

WVU Vice President for Strategic Initiatives Rob Alsop said they look forward to showing members of the House and Senate the new Reynolds Hall located on WVU’s downtown campus.

“The new home of our College of Business & Economics will be hopefully at substantial completion, so we hope to show legislators the future of that college,” Alsop recently told MetroNews.

House of Delegates Speaker Roger Hanshaw said officials at Marshall University will join WVU in hosting some of the meetings. He said the state’s other colleges and universities will also be invited to attend.

“West Virginia University has already reserved the Erickson Alumni Center for our use those three days as well as perhaps some room in various facilities downtown,” Hanshaw said.

Alsop said the alumni center has a lot of room for meetings.

“We’re thrilled to be hosting the legislature,” Alsop said.

Del. Barbara Fleischauer, D-Monongalia, applauded the move by House leadership to take some of the meetings on the road.

“I am so excited that we are doing interims in other places. That is the most fun thing. I am so excited to welcome you all to Morgantown,” she told House members on the final night of the regular session.
