Investigation underway into Town of Worthington operations

WORTHINGTON, W.Va. – Detectives from the Marion County Sheriff’s Department have executed search warrants at the Worthington Town Hall.

Sheriff Jimmy Riffle told WAJR News the actions were taken following complaints received by his office.

“Those complaints and concerns led to our office obtaining search warrants for the city records for the Town of Worthington,” Riffle said.

Unconfirmed reports indicate detectives could be trying to verify multiple cases of official misconduct.

“There is no one person in particular targeted or no suspects at this time and no arrests have been made,” Riffle said.

Investigators have possession of the town records and no timeline has been set for the probe.

“Once one piece of information is analyzed it may lead to others and so on down the line,” Riffle said. “It’s going to take as long as it takes.”

Sheriff Riffle would not elaborate on the nature of the investigation.

“We’re just trying to determine of something was done inappropriately and if so, who that might have been and what level of criminality does that rise to.”
