MERCER COUNTY, W.Va. — Fire crews in Mercer County dealing with a massive fire in the Rock area which damaged numerous cars at a salvage yard.

Hundreds of cars were engulfed in flames when first responders arrived on scene just after 2 p.m. Thursday.

The cars in the Nelson Pigg Salvage Yard are located on Browning Lambert Mountain.

All Mercer County fire departments responded to the blaze. They also reported on multiple explosions due from popping tires and gas tanks that erupted.

Crews said it may take mutliple days before the fire is under control.

Firefighters who were on the scene said there are no fire hydrants on the mountain. Water was shipped in from hydrants in the area of Montcalm.
