A Fayette County court convicts man of sex crimes with underage girl

FAYETTE COUNTY, W.Va. — A man from Victor has been convicted of felony sex crimes.

Brendan Willis, 33, was convicted of sexual abuse by a parent, guardian, or custodian and first-degree sexual abuse, both felony sex crimes involving a child.

Circuit Judge Thomas H. Ewing sat in on the three-day jury trial in Fayette County Thursday.

In January 2020, a female juvenile younger than 12 had disclosed that Willis had sexually abused her on two prior occasions. The Fayette County Sheriff’s Department Detective Bureau opened an investigation and ultimately found evidence of truth in the claims from the juvenile.

Willis faces between 10 and 20 years for the sexual abuse crime by a parent or guardian, and between five and 25 years for the crime of first degree sexual abuse.

Willis also faces up to fifty years of supervised release and must register as a
sex offender for the remainder of his life.

His sentence is scheduled for Monday, June 26, 2023 at 11:00 a.m.
