Fallen forester honored in Route 60 procession

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A hearse carrying the body of fallen Fayette County Forester Cody Mullens made its way from Charleston to Summersville Saturday evening.

Several dozen state Division of Forestry vehicles, police cruisers and fire trucks were part of the procession that traveled east on U.S. Route 60 to U.S. Route 19.

Mullens, 28, of Mount Hope, died Thursday night when a tree fell on him while he and others were battling a forest fire in the Armstrong Creek area of Fayette County.

Police arrested David Bass, 39, of Kimberly, Friday night and charged him with 4 counts of felony Wildland Arson and one count of murder. Bass is in the Southern Regional Jail. He allegedly started the fire on Tuesday.
