Monroe County commissioners vote to seek removal of sheriff

MONROE COUNTY, W.Va — The Monroe County Commission released a statement Thursday regarding a proposal to remove Monroe County Sheriff Jeff Jones from his position.

The statement from the commission stated that a unanimous vote was made Friday, May 26, that ordered County Clerk Jeremy Meadows and Prosecuting Attorney Justin St. Clair to begin drafting a resolution to remove Sheriff Jones from office.

An ongoing investigation conducted by St. Clair found that Jones and his Chief Deputy on multiple occassions had “failed to perform the responsibilities of the office in an appropriate manner.”

The County Commission requested for the investigation. They will review and act on the resolution at their regularly scheduled meeting June 14.
