WVRC Media, WVSSAC agree to 5-year extension on media broadcast rights for state championship events

WVRC Media will continue to broadcast West Virginia’s most notable high school sporting events on an annual basis.

On Thursday, the West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission and WVRC Media agreed to a five-year extension on exclusive media broadcast rights for four state championship events in high school athletics.

The extension allows WVRC Media to continue providing audio and video coverage for the Super Six Football Championships, the Girls and Boys State Basketball Tournaments and the State Baseball Tournament through the 2029 school year.

WVRC Media has broadcast WVSSAC state tournament events since 1986, and this agreement allows for that partnership to continue for the foreseeable future.

Executive Director of WVSSAC, Bernie Dolan, said of the extension, “WVRC Media and MetroNews have been great partners with the WVSSAC since 1986 and we are excited to extend the relationship through the end of this decade. Our schools and students have benefited greatly from the daily exposure that MetroNews provides to high school sports in West Virginia.”

“All of us at WVRC Media are elated to continue our longstanding agreement with the WVSSAC,” said George Pelletier, President and CEO of WVRC Media. “SSAC Executive Director Bernie Dolan and the entire staff at the WVSSAC have been wonderful partners and together we have provided West Virginia High School athletes with extensive, quality broadcasts. We look forward to continuing our partnership well into the future.”

Currently, the Super Six is played in Wheeling. Both basketball tournaments as well as the state baseball championships are held in Charleston.
