WASHINGTON, D.C. — Former President Donald Trump is scheduled to appear in a Washington, D.C. courtroom Thursday in connection with an indictment handed up this week claiming he tried to overturn the 2020 election.
A Trump attorney suggested Wednesday West Virginia could be a place to move the trial on the latest charges.
Trump attorney John Lauro was a guest on CBS This Morning. He was asked if he was going to request a change of venue in the case that is currently based in Washington, D.C.
The show host asked, “Would you seek a venue change?”
“Absolutely,” Lauro said. “There are other options. West Virginia is close by.”
“That’s like the political opposite of Washington, D.C.,” the host said. “You think you could get a fair trial there?”
“It’s more diverse than Washington, D.C., which I think is 95% for Mr. Biden,” Lauro said. “The bottom line is the President, like everyone sitting in this room, is entitled to a fair trial and we’re going to get that.”

Trump won West Virginia handily in both the 2016 and 2020 elections. Polls shows he remains very popular in the Mountain State.
West Virginia Republican Party Chair Elgine McCardle predicts the latest indictment won’t hurt Trump in West Virginia.
“The American public and West Virginians in particular are just not going to succumb to the political assassinations and games that are going on,” McCardle said during an appearance Wednesday on MetroNews “Talkline.”
