Two indicted for 2023 Berkeley County overdose death

BERKELEY COUNTY, W.Va. — Berkeley County grand jury has indicted two people for delivery of a controlled substance resulting in death stemming from a 2023 overdose.

The indictment was handed down last week for John Suffare Beavers II, 37, and Ariel Alexis Akers, 35, both of Hedgesville.

On March 6, 2023, state troopers responded to an overdose at the Pikeside Motel in Berkley County.

The victim was identified as Amber R. Owens, 36, of Winchester, VA. Investigators said that Owens was the significant other to Beavers.

An autopsy revealed that Owens died of a fentanyl overdose.

Investigators learned that Akers delivered fentanyl capsules to Beavers at the motel room he was in. The two had communicated through social media regarding the purchase of the fentanyl capsules. Beavers had received the capsules before Owens arrived to the motel room.
