ELKINS, W.Va. — A teacher at Tygarts Valley High School in Randolph County was arrested at school for drug possession.
Randolph County Sheriff Robert Elbon said the discovery was made Tuesday when his department received a tip a teacher was selling controlled substances at the school in Mill Creek, W.Va. Randolph County Deputies along with the sheriff’s department K-9 Twix went to the school to perform a free air sniff.
The dog was led around vehicles in the parking lot and hit on a pickup truck belonging to teacher William Hamilton.
Deputies called Hamilton out of class and questioned him about the dog’s discovery. Deputies said Hamilton initially denied the presence of any drugs in the vehicle, then indicated somebody he loaned the truck to may have had drugs in the vehicle. Upon further questioning, Hamilton told deputies multiple passengers who rode in the vehicle with him may have used controlled substances. Investigators said eventually, Hamilton admitted he is a habitual user of methamphetamines and had been using the substance in the past 48 hours.
The Sheriff’s Department said Hamilton consented to a search of his vehicle. Deputies found aluminum foil with burn marks typically associated with smoking meth and also discovered several small, crystal chunks which tested positive for methamphetamines.
Hamilton was taken into custody and charged with possession of methamphetamine. He was lodged in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail.
