PSC to explore possible changes for how vehicle towing rates are determined

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The state Public Service Commission has decided to seek more information on whether to change how vehicle towing rates are determined in the state.

The PSC said it will begin a general investigation on a proposal to allow rates to based annually on the Consumer Price Index. That’s the request from the West Virginia Towing & Recovery Association.

The group filed a petition with the PSC last November asking for the change. It said the current way of approving annual towing rates hasn’t allowed licensed tow companies to keep up with inflation.

Currently, individual towing companies have to file yearly rate increase petitions with the PSC.

The PSC is taking comments on the case until June 17.
