Traffic flowing over new bridge on I-64

A huge step forward in an ongoing construction project in the Kanawha Valley. The West Virginia Division of Highways has opened one lane east bound of the Donald M. Legg Memorial Bridge. That’s the new bridge carrying I-64 eastbound over the Kanawha River near Nitro.  The eastbound span is the Donald M. Legg Memorial Bridge, the westbound bridge is the World War I Memorial Bridge.  That span has been open for several months carrying traffic on I-64 while the companion bridge was under construction.

Currently those entering the highway from the St. Albans entrance eastbound are using the bridge as an entrance ramp. Work continues on the Route 25 overpass and Nitro exit on the eastbound side.

It’s anticipated the entire project to widen the road from Nitro to Teays Valley will be done by the end of this year or early 2025.
