Several firefighters resign from Cross Lanes-based VFD

CROSS LANES, W.Va. — Some upset firefighters have resigned from a Kanawha County VFD causing the county commission to arrange mutual aid from other departments.

At least 10 firefighters resigned from the Cross Lanes-based Tyler Mountain VFD. The firefighters indicated they strongly disagreed with decisions made by the department’s leadership.

The Kanawha County Commission released a statement Monday night:

“The Kanawha County Commission is closely monitoring the situation with the Tyler Mountain Volunteer Fire Department and the recent resignations.  We have arranged for mutual aid and coverage from other departments including Dunbar, Institute, Sissonville, Nitro and West Side Fire Departments.  Metro 911 is aware and will work with each of these departments for calls to the Tyler Mountain response area.  The safety and wellbeing of the residents of Cross Lanes and all of those in Kanawha County is our top priority and we will work to coordinate proper coverage.”

The department’s Facebook page had this post Monday night:

“Thank you, Cross Lanes for your continued support as we continue to work through these issues. Thank you Kanawha County and neighboring departments for arranging our mutual aid and coverage in the meanwhile.”

The Tyler Mountain VFD is located along Route 622 in Cross Lanes between Andrew Jackson Middle School and Point Harmony Elementary.
