One charged in Fairmont armed robbery

FAIRMONT, W.Va. — A 45-year old Fairmont man is facing charges after police allege he robbed a another man at gunpoint.

Raymond Barnett, 45, allegedly went to a man’s tent on 9th Street at approximately 1 p.m. Friday, threatened him with a firearm and took two backpacks containing $500 in merchandise.

According to the victim, the firearm appeared to be cocked and prepared to fire when it was pointed at them.

Police found Barnett the following morning on Walnut Avenue with the victim’s debit card and jail ID on him. His girlfriend had a small, .22 handgun, which matched the description of the weapon used in the robbery Friday.

Barnett is charged with first-degree robbery and is currently in the North Central Regional Jail.
