Former Roane EMS worker charged with embezzlement

Erica Bryan

SPENCER, W.Va. — A former employee of the Roane County EMS has been charged with embezzlement and computer fraud.

Erica Bryan of Spencer was charged this week after she was terminated in December 2023 from her position.

According to court documents she held multiple positions at the Roane EMS service and would often “double-dip” collecting pay for multiple jobs at the same time. Investigators say she woudl often submitt 100 hours of time worked with 20 hours of overtime every two weeks during her employment in 2023.

She served as an ambulance driver as well as the office manager.

Investigators say she was also given pay raises which were inconsistent with the legitimate pay improvement for fellow employees. Police say during conversations with them Bryan admitted she was the sole person who input hours into the payroll system during her job as office manager and all of her hours worked came while she was holding other jobs.
