Cabell County woman in jail after allegedly murdering brother

CULLODEN, W.Va. — A Cabell County woman is in jail after being charged with killing her brother during a family dispute early Monday morning in Culloden.

Siera Harmon (WVRJA)

Cabell County Sheriff Chuck Zerkle said Seira Harmon, 25, of Culloden, called 911 at about 12:30 a.m. from a Charley’s Creek residence.

“She said she had shot her brother,” Zerkle told MetroNews. “We got on the scene and we met Seira Harmon and her brother had succumbed to a gunshot.”

William Harmon suffered a gunshot wound to the head.

Zerkle said they had enough evidence to charge Seira Harmon with murder but there remain several unanswered questions. He said detectives are seeking answers.

“We’re going into some deeper investigations and taken some statements. There was at least one other individual there that we are talking to. We’re trying to see how the whole thing unfolded,” the sheriff said.

An autopsy was scheduled on Harmon’s body at the state Medical Examiner’s Office. Zerkle said they will be looking for things like gunshot residue.

Zerkle also said it’s unclear if William Harmon was armed during the dispute or had been earlier. There was also alcohol involved, according to Zerkle.

Zerkle said it appears more and more people opt for guns during arguments.

“With West Virginia being an open carry state it has increased the number of people who carry guns. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing but it’s a fact,” Zerkle said. “Sometimes when arguments break out unfortunately they settle it with guns,” Zerkle said.

Harmon is being held in the Western Regional Jail without bail.
