First female deputy hired in Harrison County

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — Harrison County Sheriff Robert Matheny has hired the first female deputy in agency history.

Kaleigh Wetzel comes from Lewis County and is already a certified police officer and can start upon completion of the Field Training Program. Matheny has also announced the hiring of a certified police officer from the City of Dunbar, Roger King.

Both officers will be sworn in during a ceremony Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the county Law Enforcement Headquarters at 609 Main Street.

“I am excited with the way our agency is headed and look forward to the impact they will make upon the completion of our field training program,” Matheny said.

The public is welcome to attend the event.
