North Carolina men killed in McDowell County accident

NORTHFORK, W.Va. — Two North Carolina men are dead after crashing a UTV in McDowell County, West Virginia.

McDowell County Sheriff James Muncy said the accident occurred about 6:30 p.m. Friday along Route 17 near Northfork.

According to investigators, the wo men were riding in a side-by-side on the highway at Northfork Hollow. The machine struck a utility pole and then crashed over a cliff. The sheriff would not indicate how far the machine fell, but both men were dead at the scene.

The two victims are identified as Jacob Steele, 28, and Daniel Sell, 22, both of Cleveland, North Carolina.

The victims were in West Virginia on vacation. Both are members of the Rowan-Iredell Fire Department in Cleveland, North Carolina. The fire department expressed condolences to the family on their Facebook page.
