Victim, suspect identified in Morgantown murder

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department detectives have identified the victim and suspect in the July 11 deadly shooting on Mountain Valley Drive.

Deputies said Rashad Malik Alton, 21, of Morgantown, was shot by Arnold Johnson, 19, of Montgomery Village, Maryland. Alton died at Ruby Memorial Hospital.

Police are looking for Johnson, who is considered armed and dangerous. Detectives said they believe he’s fled the state and could be in Maryland, Virginia or Washington, D.C.

Johnson and Alton knew one another prior to the shooting, investigators said.

Anyone with information or video surveillance in the Mountain Valley Drive from July 11 between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. is asked to call the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department at 304-291-7260.
