MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A Wednesday night crash on I-81 claimed the life of a Mississippi woman whose SUV ran into the rear of a tractor trailer.
The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office tells Metronews they were dispatched to the crash around 8 p.m. at the 9 mile marker of northbound I-81.
Initial evidence indicates the tractor trailer was stopped in traffic due to road work and deputies say a Nissan Armada, driven by Shannon O’Brien, 55 of Mississippi, continued driving at normal highway speed, striking the rear of the tractor trailer.
O’Brien was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured.
Night time road work has been ongoing along the interstate in Berkeley County this spring.
