MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University Health System Board of Directors has approved a plan to invest hundreds of millions of dollars into healthcare facilities in West Virginia and the surrounding region.
The projects are still working through regulatory approvals and will be in Charleston, Fairmont, Keyser, Morgantown, Parkersburg, Princeton, and Weirton in West Virginia; Oakland, Maryland; and St. Clairsville, Ohio. The total investment is more than $350 million, bringing the three-year total investment in capital projects by WVU Medicine to more than $1.2 billion over the last three years.
“This continues our momentum of expanding access across the region to improve the health trajectory of the communities we serve, while also giving local economies a needed boost, as these projects will create new jobs and economic opportunities for thousands,” Albert L. Wright, Jr., president and CEO of the WVU Health System, said.
“Our growth and expansion are always mission-based and intentional and always intended to provide better service and access to those we serve.”
The 2026 capital improvement include a $135 million New Patient Tower at the Camden Clark Medical Center in Parkersburg; a $68 million Phase III expansion at the Fairmont Medical Center; a $15 million new radiation oncology center at the Garrett Regional Medical Center in Oakland, Maryland; a $2.5 million orthopedic suite at the Potomac Valley Hospital in Keyser; a new $25.5 million four-story medical office building at the Princeton Community Hospital; a $4 million Nuclear Medicine center at the Thomas Hospitals in Charleston; an $8.7 million surgical intensive care unit at Thomas Hospitals; at the Weirton Medical Center a new $20.1 million Cancer Center; the Wheeling Hospital has plans to build a Small Community Hospital in St. Clairsville, Ohio estimated to cost $56 million; in Morgantown, a relocation and expansion of the Outpatient Behavioral Health Services is planned at a cost of $18.5 million.
