ELKINS, W.Va. — One person was killed and the driver has been charged in a single-vehicle crash that happened in Randolph County Tuesday.
Deputies from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department found the car in the 3400 block of Georgetown Road off the right side at 3:30 p.m. The car went down the hill into a stream and struck a concrete culvert before flipping on it’s side.
The passenger was ejected and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver, Sidney Brenwalt, 31, of Beverly, was injured and was transported by Randolph County EMS. At the hospital, Deputies said Brenwalt admitted at the hospital to drinking one alcoholic beverage at lunch.
Police said Brenwalt had bloodshot eyes and when given a breath test he had a BAC of .164, twice the legal limit for intoxication in the state.
Police said they also believe believe speed was a factor in the crash.
Brenwalt has been charged with DUI causing death and is being held in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $100,000 cash-only bond.
The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office and West Virginia State Police continue their investigation.
