SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The board of governors at BridgeValley Community and Technical College has chosen a vice chancellor with the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission as its next president.
The BOG approved a resolution Friday naming Dr. Chris Treadway as the fourth permanent president of BridgeValley.
Treadway, a Kanawha County native, is currently vice chancellor for the West Virginia Community and Technical College System. He thanked the BOG Friday for its confidence.
“I’m really grateful to all of you all and to the search committee for all of the effort that went into this search,” Treadway said. “I’ve had the privilege of working with BridgeValley a lot over the last 11 years that I’ve been with the commission (HEPC) and council (WVCTCS) and I’m excited about transitioning to a new role and working with BridgeValley in a different capacity.”
Treadway replaces Casey Sacks who left for a job in the U.S. Department of Education earlier this year. Suzette Breeden has been interim president.
BridgeValley BOG President Mark Blankenship said Treadway was the clear choice in what Blankenship described as a “competitive” search. The search committee recieved applications from 50 candidates, interviewed 11 candidates remotely and had three finalists on campus interviews.
“We interviwed a lot of talented people but at the end of the day we thought Dr. Treadway could do it best,” Blankenship said. “It was competitive but he was the clear choice.”
Treadway said there’s good momentum at BridgeValley.
“BridgeValley over the years has had some ups and downs and we’re in an up right now and I think we’re going to continue to move in the right direction. There couldn’t be a better time to join the institution when you’re on this upward trajectory and I’m really excited about joining the team and seeing where we can go from here.”
Treadway was head of the HEPC Division of Policy and Planning before becoming vice chancellor. Before joining the higher education office, he was the director of the West Virginia STARBASE Academy.
Treadway’s selection still must receive final approval from the WVCTCS.
BridgeValley Community and Technical College is based in South Charleston that has a second location in Montgomery.
