CHARLESTON, W.Va. –There is a new leader of the West Virginia Offices of the Insurance Commissioner.
Governor Patrick Morrisey Friday appointed Erin Hunter to serve as the commissioner, effective July 1. Hunter will succeed Commissioner Allan L. McVey, who is retiring effective June 30.
“Erin Hunter has spent more than a decade serving West Virginians through the Offices of the Insurance Commissioner and has earned a reputation as a knowledgeable and effective leader,” Morrisey said. “I am confident she will build on the agency’s strong foundation, and I thank Allan McVey for his years of dedicated service to the people of West Virginia.”
Hunter originally joined the Offices of the Insurance Commissioner in December 2012, where she served as Legal Regulatory Counsel. Through this she was able to advance through the agency’s leadership ranks, serving as General Counsel and later Deputy Insurance Commissioner.
While there she played a key role in regulatory oversight, legislative initiatives, and agency operations while also helping guide insurance policy.
Hunter earned bachelor’s degrees in Political Science and English from WVU, before earning her Juris Doctor from the WVU College of Law.
