Detroit man arrested for Huntington fatal shooting

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — A Michigan man has been arrested for a Cabell County murder.

Huntington police announced Kendall Deion Crutcher, 44, of Detroit, Michigan was arrested Friday morning. Crutcher was charged with first-degree murder for the July 7 shooting death of Jackie Harper, 33, of South Charleston.

Harper was fatally shot Tuesday afternoon near the intersection of 9th Avenue and 24th Street in Huntington, according to police.

After a criminal complaint was signed on Crutcher Thursday, Huntington police said they worked with the U.S. Marshal Service to track him down. Crutcher was brought into custody by U.S. Marshals in East Point, Michigan.

Crutcher is being held in a Michigan correctional facility. He’ll be extradited back to West Virginia to face the charges.

The Huntington police statement commended the collaborative effort in finding Crutcher.

“The Huntington Police Department would like to recognize the assistance provided in this investigation to all of the agencies that assisted including the US Marshal Service, Eastern District of Michigan and Southern District of West Virginia, and the Cabell County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.”
