Grandmother of Boone County teen who starved to death to go on trial in October

MADISON, W.Va. — A new trial date has been set for the Boone County woman charged in the death of her granddaughter.

Donna Stone (WCHS-TV)

Donna Stone will go on trial starting October 13 for charges of murder by a parent, guardian or custodian by refusal or failure to provide necessities and child neglect resulting in death. The trial date was set during Stone’s Tuesday appearance in Boone County Circuit Court.

The charges followed the death of 14-year-old Kyneddi Miller, Stone’s granddaughter. Deputies found Kyneddi in her Morrisvale home in April 2024, “emaciated to a skeletal state.”

Donna was supposed to go on trial two different times, March 17 and July 21, but those were rescheduled.

Kyneddi lived in the home with her mother, Julie Miller, and her grandparents Donna and Jerry.

Julie Miller, 51, pleaded guilty to death of a child by a parent by child abuse and was sentenced in February to 15 years to life in prison.

Jerry Stone was found incompetent to stand trial in August 2025 and has since been committed to a mental hospital.
